General Cooking Instructions

Canadian Pan Fried – A traditional favourite

Cover bottom of frying pan with cooking oil, margarine, or butter and heat to 190 °C (375 °F), or medium heat. Place frozen pierogies into frying pan and fry for approximately 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Then turn pierogies over and brown on other side for 3-4 minutes. Remove and serve with your choice of favourite toppings like sour cream, onions, or bacon bits.

Boiled – For a lighter taste of CHEEMO!

Place frozen CHEEMO pierogies into boiling water and stir gently with a wooden spoon or spatula to prevent pierogies from sticking together or to the bottom of the pot. Boil for 3-5 minutes until they float to the top and are well puffed. Drain in a colander, and toss gently in melted butter or margarine. Serve with sautéed onions, bacon bits, and/or light sour cream.

Barbecue – A great alternative to baked potatoes!

Place a single layer of frozen pierogies in a double thickness of aluminum foil. Dot liberally with butter, margarine, or oil and season with salt and pepper. Add chopped onions if desired. Wrap loosely in foil and ensure edges of foil are sealed. Place on barbecue over medium heat for approximately 15 minutes, turned package over every 3-4 minutes to ensure even browning. Remove and serve with your favourite toppings.

Baked – A light and crispy alternative

Place frozen pierogies flat side down on a non-stick baking pan. Spray tops of pierogies with cooking oil, or brush pierogies with light coating of cooking oil. Place in oven at 175 °C (375 °F) for approximately 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with non-fat sour cream or other favourite toppings.

To successfully microwave CHEEMO pierogies, first place frozen pierogies in hot tap water for 3-4 minutes. Remove pierogies from water and place in microwave dish. Cover with vented plastic wrap and microwave on high power for 2-3 minutes. Remove and serve.

Crockpot - Great for entertaining; non-sticking

Pre-set the crockpot’s temperature control to low heat. Brushing the interior of the pot with oil or margarine is optional.
Place the desired amount of pierogies in a bowl and brush or spray them with a cooking oil or melted margarine. Transfer the pierogies to the crockpot, add 3-4 tbsp. of water and cover. The pierogies will be ready to serve after about an hour and will hold for 2-2½ hours. If a longer holding time is required; gently rearrange the pierogies, add another 1-2 tbsp. of water to the pot and brush pierogies with a bit more (butter or margarine) to reduce the drying of the pierogies.

Serve with sautéed onions and or bacon bits.

Toaster Oven

Arrange pierogies on a parchment paper-lined toaster oven tray. Pierogies may be baked dry or brushed with cooking oil or margarine - cooking oil spray is optional.

Bake at 232 °C (450 °F) for about 6 minutes on each side. If baked too long, pierogies will burst.

DO NOT DEEP FRY or fully submerge pierogies in cooking oil. Use only as directed.
