TRADITIONAL PEROGY PREPARATION METHODS : How to cook perogies.

Canadian Pan Fried – A Traditional Favourite

Cover bottom of frying pan with cooking oil, margarine or butter and heat to 190 °C (375 °F) or medium heat. Place frozen perogies into frying pan and fry for approximately 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Then, turn perogies over and brown on other side for 3-4 minutes. Remove and serve with your choice of favourite toppings like sour cream, onions or bacon bits.

Boiled – For a Lighter Taste of CHEEMO!

Place frozen CHEEMO Perogies into boiling water and stir gently with a wooden spoon or spatula to prevent perogies from sticking together or to the bottom of the pot. Boil for 3-5 minutes until they float to the top and are well puffed. Drain in a colander and toss gently in melted butter or margarine. Serve with sautéed onions, bacon bits and/or light sour cream.

Barbecue – A Great Alternative to Baked Potatoes!

Place a single layer of frozen perogies in double-layered aluminum foil. Dot liberally with butter, margarine or oil and season with salt and pepper. Add chopped onions, if desired. Wrap loosely in foil and ensure edges of foil are sealed. Place on barbecue over medium heat for approximately 15 minutes. Turn the package over every 3-4 minutes to ensure even browning. Remove and serve with your favourite toppings.

Baked – A Light and Crispy Alternative

Place frozen perogies flat side down on a non-stick baking pan. Spray tops of perogies with cooking oil or brush perogies with light coating of cooking oil. Place in oven at 175 °C (375 °F) for approximately 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with non-fat sour cream or other favourite toppings.

Microwave

To successfully microwave CHEEMO Perogies, first place frozen perogies in hot tap water for 3-4 minutes. Remove perogies from water and place in microwave dish. Cover with vented plastic wrap and microwave on high power for 2-3 minutes. Remove and serve.

Crockpot – Great for Entertaining; Non-Sticking

Pre-set the crockpot’s temperature control to low heat. Brushing the interior of the pot with oil or margarine is optional.

Place the desired amount of perogies in a bowl and brush or spray them with cooking oil or melted margarine. Transfer the perogies to the crockpot, add 3-4 tbsp of water and cover. The perogies will be ready to serve after about an hour and will hold for 2 – 2 1/2 hours. If a longer holding time is required, gently rearrange the perogies, add another 1-2 tbsp of water to the pot and brush perogies with a bit more butter (or margarine) to reduce drying.

Serve with sautéed onions and or bacon bits.

Toaster Oven

Arrange perogies on a parchment paper-lined toaster oven tray. Perogies may be baked dry or brushed with cooking oil or margarine. Cooking oil spray is optional.

Bake at 232 °C (450 °F) for about 6 minutes on each side. If baked too long, perogies will burst.

Warning

DO NOT DEEP FRY or fully submerge perogies in cooking oil. Use only as directed.
